Professorship (W2) in Turbomachinery - #1002628
Fakultät für Maschinenbau und Schiffstechnik
The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Marine Technologies invites applications for the position of Professorship (W2) in Turbomachinery to be appointed at the earliest possible date.
The professorship represents the subject area of Turbomachinery in research and teaching at the Faculty. In the degree programmes Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, Vocational Education (teacher training), Business Administration of Services, Service Management, Sustainable Maritime Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, both basic and specialised content of the subject area is taught. Lectures are to be heldin German and English.
The Faculty has defined four thematic priorities for its strategic orientation: Renewable Energies and Energy Efficiency, Biomedical Engineering, Maritime Technology and Industry 5.0. These four priorities are embedded in the guiding theme of Sustainable Engineering.
The field of appointment is the subject area of Turbomachinery. Within this field, the substantive design of the research profile is deliberately left open and is for the applicants to define. We expect an independent research profile that demonstrates the scientific breadth of Turbomachinery and offers viable points of connection to several of the Faculty’s thematic priorities and chairs. The field of appointment encompasses the design, dimensioning and optimisation of turbomachines, including specialisations such as fluid-structure interaction or flow-induced sound generation and propagation. Research may be of an experimental and/or numerical nature.
An essential part of the application is an account of how applicants situate their own research profile in Turbomachinery within the Faculty’s four thematic priorities and the guiding theme of Sustainable Engineering, and of the specific interfaces to existing chairs and their research activities.
We are looking for a person with sound teaching experience and outstanding research achievements in the field of appointment, combined with the ability to bring together fundamentals and engineering applications. Teaching aptitude is a prerequisite for appointment. Relevant experience in third-party funded research projects at national and international level, as well as in collaboration with industrial companies, is expected. The future post-holder is expected to make substantial research contributions to the development of the strategic priorities of the Faculty and the University.
A close integration into the Faculty is expected, in particular through points of connection to research activities in Structural Mechanics, Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Energy Technology, Production Engineering, Microfluidics and Biomechanics. The willingness to co-operate scientifically with the Interdisciplinary Faculty of the University of Rostock and to co-operate with companies, also internationally, is a prerequisite.
